Manchester AVP Grievance Hearing – NWAS Defers Decision

After a stage 3 grievance hearing regarding the lack of cost of living rises to the Manchester Availability Allowance today, management have decided to defer their decision on the matter for two weeks whilst they seek legal advice.

The Availability payment has been paid to PES and ECC staff in Manchester since 2005.  Despite it being agreed in writing at the outset that the management would pay £1500 per year to PES and ECC staff to be available while in their meal break window, including a pensionable uplift in line with the cost of living rises each year, the value of the payment has not risen above it’s original level since its inception.

UNISON wrote to the management and asked for the money that is owed to the staff in Manchester to be paid in March 2009, a request which was subsequently refused. If management refuse to uphold the grievance and honour the original agreement at this third stage, the union may be forced to revert to legal action to resolve the matter, senior officials have warned. UNISON upholds that NWAS have a contractual obligation to deliver what they previously agreed to provide.
